Business Profile: Karen Revolorio Murgas of La Villa Mexican and Salvadoran Food

Seton Village NPP: How long has La Villa Mexican and Salvadoran Food been in business?

Karen Revolorio Murgas: Two and a half years. We opened January 2020, about two months before the pandemic hit the country.

NPP: What brought you to Seton Village as the location for your business?

KRM: I was raised in a household where the main form of income was the food business. I used to help in the kitchen and learned all those amazing recipes. Since then, I wanted to have a restaurant where I could recreate all those authentic recipes. And since we live in South Orange, we knew the peacefulness, safety and diversity in cultures in Seton Village. We waited for a few years before an opportunity opened up for a space.

NPP: What is your favorite part of running La Villa Mexican and Salvadoran Food?

KRM: Each time that a dish comes out from the kitchen with all it’s colors and a nice presentation and knowing that it's made with all fresh and natural ingredients and with lot of love. And, also seeing our costumers enjoying them makes us really happy.

NPP: What would you like to see change for you or other businesses in the area?

KRM: We would like to see more support in social media as they do for the downtown businesses .

NPP: Give a shout-out to some of your favorite customers/clients! Name names.

KRM: We would just like to thank all our costumers. We have been so lucky to have so many people supporting us throughout this rough time with the pandemic. It'll be unfair to just name a few names. So if you have been one of so many people that has supported La Villa in this difficult time we want to say thank you very much. We would no be in business without your support.

NPP: Other than your business, what other Seton Village and South Orange businesses do you frequent? Why?

KRM: We definitely enjoy having Fantasy Party World right in the same building. It's really convenient not having to drive far way to get balloons and all party supplies. They have made personalized balloons and flower arrangements for specials occasions for us.

NPP: As a restaurant partner for this year’s Hola Fest on October 15th, what specials or fun things do you have planned for visitors to the restaurant?

KRM: We want everyone to try our nachos made with our special homemade Chile con queso recipe with options for meat eater and vegetarians. And of course our street tacos with our hand pressed Mexican tortillas fresh made in house everyday.
